RESUMO

Understanding the interactions between fish gut microbiota and the aquatic environment is a key issue for understanding aquatic microorganisms. Environmental microorganisms enter fish intestines through feeding, and the amount of invasion varies due to different feeding habits. Traditional fish feeding habitat preferences are determined by fish morphology or behavior. However, little is known about how the feeding behavior of fish relative to the vertical structure in a shallow lake influences gut microbiota. In our study, we used nitrogen isotopes to measure the trophic levels of fish. Then high-throughput sequencing was used to describe the composition of environmental microbiota and fish gut microbiota, and FEAST (fast expectation-maximization for microbial source tracking) method was used to trace the source of fish gut microbiota. We investigated the microbial diversity of fish guts and their habitats in Lake Sanjiao and verified that the sediments indeed played an important role in the assembly of fish gut microbiota. Then, the FEAST analysis indicated that microbiota in water and sediments acted as the primary sources in half of the fish gut microbiota respectively. Furthermore, we classified the vertical habitat preferences using microbial data and significant differences in both composition and function of fish gut microbiota were observed between groups with distinct habitat preferences. The performance of supervised and unsupervised machine learning in classifying fish gut microbiota by habitat preferences actually exceeded classification by fish species taxonomy and fish trophic level. Finally, we described the stability of fish co-occurrence networks with different habitat preferences. Interestingly, the co-occurrence network seemed more stable in pelagic fish than in benthic fish. Our results show that the preferences of fish in the vertical structure of habitat was the main factor affecting their gut microbiota. We advocated the use of microbial interactions between fish gut and their surrounding environment to reflect fish preferences in vertical habitat structure. This approach not only offers a novel perspective for understanding the interactions between fish gut microbiota and environmental factors, but also provides new methods and ideas for studying fish habitat selection in aquatic ecosystems.

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal nitrides and carbides (MXenes), represented by Ti3C2Tx, have broad applications in flexible electronics, electromechanical devices, and structural membranes due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Despite the Young's modulus of 2D Ti3C2Tx has been theoretically predicted to be 0.502 TPa, which has not been experimentally confirmed so far due to the measurement is extremely restricted. Here, by optimizing the sample preparation, cutting, and transfer protocols, we perform the direct in-situ tensile tests on monolayer Ti3C2Tx nanosheets using nanomechanical push-to-pull equipment under a scanning electron microscope. The effective Young's modulus is 0.484 ± 0.013 TPa, which is much closer to the theoretical value of 0.502 TPa than the previously reported 0.33 TPa by the disputed nanoindentation method, and the measured elastic stiffness is ~948 N/m. Moreover, during the process of tensile loading, the monolayer Ti3C2Tx shows an average elastic strain of ~3.2% and a tensile strength as large as ~15.4 GPa. This work corrects the previous reports by nanoindentation method and demonstrates that the Ti3C2Tx indeed keeps immense potential for broad range of applications.

Akkermansia muciniphila is a potential candidate for ulcerative colitis prevention. Considering that it utilizes 2'-fucosyllactose (2'FL) for growth, 2'FL can be used to enrich the abundance of A. muciniphila in feces. However, whether the crosswalk between 2'FL and A. muciniphila can promote the intestinal colonization of A. muciniphila remains unclear. In this study, we explored the effect and the underlying mechanism of 2'FL on the colonization of A. muciniphila in vitro and in vivo as well as its alleviating effect on colitis. Our results revealed that 2'FL can serve as a carbon source of A. muciniphila to support the growth and increase cell-surface hydrophobicity and the expression of the genes coding fibronectin-binding autotransporter adhesin to promote the adhesion to Caco2/HT29 methotrexate (MTX) cells but not of galactooligosaccharides (GOS) and glucose. Moreover, 2'FL could increase the host mucin formation to promote the adhesion of A. muciniphila to Caco2/HT29 MTX cells but not of GOS and glucose. Furthermore, 2'FL could significantly increase the colonization of A. muciniphila in the gut to alleviate colitis in mice. Overall, the interplay between A. muciniphila and 2'FL is expected to provide an advantageous ecological niche for A. muciniphila so as to confer further health benefits against colitis.

Developing in situ/operando spectroscopic techniques with high sensitivity and reproducibility is of great importance for mechanistic investigations of surface-mediated electrochemical reactions. Herein, we report the fabrication of highly ordered rhombic gold nanocube superlattices (GNSs) as substrates for surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) with significantly enhanced SEIRA effect, which can be controlled by manipulating the randomness of GNSs. Finite difference time domain simulations reveal that the electromagnetic effect accounts for the significantly improved spectroscopic vibrations on the GNSs. In situ SEIRAS results show that the vibrations of CO on the Cu2O surfaces have been enhanced by 2.4 ± 0.5 and 18.0 ± 1.3 times using GNSs as substrates compared to those on traditional chemically deposited gold films in acidic and neutral electrolytes, respectively. Combined with isotopic labeling experiments, the reaction mechanisms for C-C coupling of CO electroreduction on Cu-based catalysts are revealed using the GNSs substrates.

Camouflage detectors that can detect incoming radiation from any angle without being detected are extremely important in stealth, guided missile, and heat-seeking missile industries. In order to accomplish this, the absorption and emission processes must be manipulated simultaneously. However, Kirchhoff's fundamental law suggests that absorption and emission are always in the same direction α(θ) = ε(θ), i.e., absorption and emission are reciprocal. This means that the emission from the detector always points back to the source, for example towards a laser source in a guided missile. Thus, detector emission serves as a complementary measure to hide an object. Here, we present a novel camouflage detector that uses a nonreciprocal metasurface array to independently detect the direction of the incoming radiation as well as manipulate its emissivity response. This is accomplished by using a magneto-optical material called indium arsenide (InAs), which breaks Lorentz reciprocity and Kirchhoff's fundamental law such that α(θ) ≠ ε(θ). This design results in the following absorption and emission: α(θ) = ε(-θ). Nine metasurfaces were designed, optimized, and operated at different incident angles from +50° to -50° at a wavelength of 13 µm. Furthermore, by keeping all metasurfaces in a pixilated array form, one could make a device that works over the full ±50° range. Potentially, this array of nonreciprocal metasurfaces can be used to fabricate thermal emitters or solar-harvesting systems.

BACKGROUND: Evidence on the association between multimorbidity and cognitive impairment in Chinese older population is limited. In addition, whether a healthy lifestyle can protect cognitive function in multimorbid older population remains unknown. METHODS: A total of 6116 participants aged ≥ 65 years from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey were followed up repeatedly. The number of coexisting chronic diseases was used for assessing multimorbidity and cardiometabolic multimorbidity. Three lifestyle statuses (unhealthy, intermediate, and healthy) were defined based on a lifestyle score covering smoking, alcohol drinking, body mass index, outdoor activities, and dietary pattern. Cognitive impairment was defined as the Mini-Mental State Examination score < 24. A modified Poisson regression model with robust error variance was used to assess the associations between multimorbidity, healthy lifestyle, and cognitive impairment. RESULTS: During a median follow-up period of 5.8 years, 1621 incident cases of cognitive impairment were identified. The relative risk (RR) of cognitive impairment associated with heavy multimorbidity burden (≥ 3 conditions) was 1.39 (95% confidence interval: 1.22-1.59). This association declined with age, with RRs being 3.08 (1.78-5.31), 1.40 (1.04-1.87), and 1.19 (1.01-1.40) in subjects aged < 70 years, ≥ 70 and < 80 years, and ≥ 80 years, respectively (P for interaction = 0.001). Compared to unhealthy lifestyle, a healthy lifestyle was related to an approximately 40% reduced risk of cognitive impairment regardless of multimorbidity burden. Among the 5 lifestyle factors assessed, daily outdoor activities and a healthy dietary pattern showed convincing protective effects on cognitive function. CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between multimorbidity and cognitive impairment is age-dependent but remains significant in the population aged 80 years or older. A healthy lifestyle may protect cognitive function regardless of the multimorbidity burden. These findings highlight the importance of targeting individuals with heavy multimorbidity burden and promoting a heathy lifestyle to prevent cognitive impairment in Chinese older population.

Understanding the structure-stability relationship of catalysts is imperative for the development of high-performance electrocatalytic devices. Herein, we utilize operando attenuated total reflectance surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS) to quantitatively monitor the evolution of Cu single-atom catalysts (SACs) during the electrochemical reduction of CO2 (CO2RR). Cu SACs are converted into 2-nm Cu nanoparticles through a reconstruction process during CO2RR. The evolution rate of Cu SACs is highly dependent on the substrates of the catalysts due to the coordination difference. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the stability of Cu SACs is highly dependent on their formation energy, which can be manipulated by controlling the affinity between Cu sites and substrates. This work highlights the use of operando ATR-SEIRAS to achieve mechanistic understanding of structure-stability relationship for long-term applications.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication of diabetes. Microaneurysms (MAs) are often observed in the retinal vessels of diabetic patients and represent one of the earliest signs of DR. Accurate and efficient detection of MAs is crucial for the diagnosis of DR. In this study, an automatic model (MA-YOLO) is proposed for MA detection in fluorescein angiography (FFA) images. To obtain detailed features and improve the discriminability of MAs in FFA images, SwinIR was utilized to reconstruct super-resolution images. To solve the problems of missed detection of small features and feature information loss, an MA detection layer was added between the neck and the head sections of YOLOv8. To enhance the generalization ability of the MA-YOLO model, transfer learning was conducted between high-resolution images and low-resolution images. To avoid excessive penalization due to geometric factors and address sample distribution imbalance, the loss function was optimized by taking the Wise-IoU loss as a bounding box regression loss. The performance of the MA-YOLO model in MA detection was compared with that of other state-of-the-art models, including SSD, RetinaNet, YOLOv5, YOLOX, and YOLOv7. The results showed that the MA-YOLO model had the best performance in MA detection, as shown by its optimal metrics, including recall, precision, F1 score, and AP, which were 88.23%, 97.98%, 92.85%, and 94.62%, respectively. Collectively, the proposed MA-YOLO model is suitable for the automatic detection of MAs in FFA images, which can assist ophthalmologists in the diagnosis of the progression of DR.

Food allergy (FA) has become a prominent problem in public health. 2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) was reported to alleviate FA symptoms; however, the regulatory mechanism is still unclear. This study evaluated the 2'-FL antiallergic potential in an ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized mouse model and explored the systemic effects of 2'-FL on gut microecology and the intestinal immune barrier. The results showed that 2'-FL alleviated allergy symptoms, decreased serum allergic indicator levels, enhanced the intestinal barrier, and attenuated low-grade inflammation. The up-regulation of G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) was associated with higher levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in 2'-FL intervention mice. 2'-FL also improved the intestinal microbiota diversity and increased the abundance of Akkermansia, Lachnospiraceae UCG-006, and Ruminococcaceae while suppressing Muribaculaceae, Desulfovibrionaceae, and Erysipelotrichaceae. Additionally, 2'-FL ameliorated the imbalance of Th2/Th1, mainly by decreasing Th2-type immune response and enhanced CD4 + Foxp3 + Treg immunoreaction. These results suggest that 2'-FL restores intestinal barrier defects, gut microbiota disorder, and immune impairment while alleviating ovalbumin-induced allergic symptoms in FA mice.

Hyperuricemia nephropathy (HN) is a metabolic disease characterized by tubular damage, tubulointerstitial fibrosis, and uric acid kidney stones and has been demonstrated to be associated with hyperuricemia. Coffee leaf tea is drunk as a functional beverage. However, its prevention effects on HN remain to be explored. This study showed that coffee leaf tea extracts (TE) contain 19 polyphenols, with a total content of 550.15 ± 27.58 mg GAE/g. TE decreased serum uric acid levels via inhibiting XOD activities and modulating the expression of urate transporters (GLUT9, OAT3, and ABCG2) in HN rats. TE prevented HN-induced liver and kidney damage and attenuated renal fibrosis. Moreover, it upregulated the abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria (Phascolarctobacterium, Alloprevotella, and Butyricicoccus) in the gut and reversed the amino acid-related metabolism disorder caused by HN. TE also decreased the circulating LPS and d-lactate levels and increased the fecal SCFA levels. This study supported the preliminary and indicative effect of coffee leaf tea in the prevention of hyperuricemia and HN.

Obesity has emerged as one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide. Our study was conducted to investigate the anti-obese potential of novel probiotic Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis FB3-14 (FB3-14) and the underlying molecular mechanisms in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. The results demonstrated that an 8-week FB3-14 intervention significantly suppressed the HFD-induced body and fat weight gain and abnormal alterations of the serum lipid parameter, restoring the levels of cholesterol (4.29 mmol/L) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (3.42 mmol/L). FB3-14 treatment also attenuated adipocyte expansion, hepatic injury, and low-grade systemic inflammation and restored the expressions of lipid-metabolism-related genes, including Hsl, Leptin, and Adiponectin. Furthermore, FB3-14 was observed to reduce the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio in obese mice; increase the abundance of Akkermansia muciniphila, unclassified_Muribaculaceae, Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group, and Bifidobacterim; and upregulate G protein-coupled receptor41 associated with higher levels of butyric acid. These results indicate the protective effectiveness of FB3-14 in HFD-driven obesity and gut microbiota disorders, highlighting the promising potential of FB3-14 as a functional nutrition supplement.

Mass-Suite (MSS) is a Python-based, open-source software package designed to analyze high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS)-based non-targeted analysis (NTA) data, particularly for water quality assessment and other environmental applications. MSS provides flexible, user-defined workflows for HRMS data processing and analysis, including both basic functions (e.g., feature extraction, data reduction, feature annotation, data visualization, and statistical analyses) and advanced exploratory data mining and predictive modeling capabilities that are not provided by currently available open-source software (e.g., unsupervised clustering analyses, a machine learning-based source tracking and apportionment tool). As a key advance, most core MSS functions are supported by machine learning algorithms (e.g., clustering algorithms and predictive modeling algorithms) to facilitate function accuracy and/or efficiency. MSS reliability was validated with mixed chemical standards of known composition, with 99.5% feature extraction accuracy and ~ 52% overlap of extracted features relative to other open-source software tools. Example user cases of laboratory data evaluation are provided to illustrate MSS functionalities and demonstrate reliability. MSS expands available HRMS data analysis workflows for water quality evaluation and environmental forensics, and is readily integrated with existing capabilities. As an open-source package, we anticipate further development of improved data analysis capabilities in collaboration with interested users.

Purpose: To explore whether machine learning models using serological markers can predict the relapse of Ulcerative colitis (UC). Patients and Methods: This clinical cohort study included 292 UC patients, and serological markers were obtained when patients were discharged from the hospital. Subsequently, four machine learning models including the random forest (RF) model, the logistic regression model, the decision tree, and the neural network were compared to predict the relapse of UC. A nomogram was constructed, and the performance of these models was evaluated by accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results: Based on the patients' characteristics and serological markers, we selected the relevant variables associated with relapse and developed a LR model. The novel model including gender, white blood cell count, percentage of leukomonocyte, percentage of monocyte, absolute value of neutrophilic granulocyte, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate was established for predicting the relapse. In addition, the average AUC of the four machine learning models was 0.828, of which the RF model was the best. The AUC of the test group was 0.889, the accuracy was 76.4%, the sensitivity was 78.5%, and the specificity was 76.4%. There were 45 variables in the RF models, and the relative weight coefficients of these variables were determined. Age has the greatest impact on classification results, followed by hemoglobin concentration, white blood cell count, and platelet distribution width. Conclusion: Machine learning models based on serological markers had high accuracy in predicting the relapse of UC. The model can be used to noninvasively predict patient outcomes and can be an effective tool for determining personalized treatment plans.

BACKGROUND: Experimental studies have demonstrated the neuroprotection of ischemic postconditioning (IPostC) in acute ischemic stroke by attenuating ischemia-reperfusion injury. This study aimed to investigate the safety and tolerability of direct IPostC in both a dog model and patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with thrombectomy. METHODS: The study involved 2 parts. First, IPostC was induced by repeated balloon inflation and deflation in dogs, where a low-pressure balloon was navigated to the anterior spinal artery, and 4 cycles of 5-minute ischemia followed by 5-minute reperfusion were performed. Vascular injuries were assessed using angiography and vascular tissue specimens. Then, a 3+3 dose-escalation trial was conducted in patients with acute ischemic stroke following successful thrombectomy recanalization. Patients received direct IPostC with ischemia and reperfusion durations in progressive increments of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 minutes ×4 cycles. Major adverse responses were defined as vessel perforation, rupture, dissection, reocclusion, severe vasospasm, thrombotic events, and rupture of the balloon. RESULTS: IPostC was investigated in 4 dogs. No vessel perforation or rupture, dissection, or vasospasm was observed under the angiography. Only 1 vessel experienced mild injury between the intima and the internal elastic membrane detected on a histopathologic slide. Then, 18 patients were recruited. The duration of IPostC was progressively escalated with no major response happened. No patient experienced agitation, discomfort, or other tolerability issues. Five patients (27.8%) experienced any intracranial hemorrhage after thrombectomy, and 1 (5.6%) was symptomatic. At 3-month follow-up, no patient died, and 9 patients (50%) achieved functional independence. CONCLUSIONS: Direct IPostC inducing by 4 cycles of 5-minute ischemia followed by 5-minute reperfusion is safe, feasible, and tolerable in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with thrombectomy. Sessile droplets play a crucial role in the microreactors of biochemical samples. Acoustofluidics provide a non-contact and label-free method for manipulating particles, cells, and chemical analytes in droplets. In the present study, we propose a micro-stirring application based on acoustic swirls in sessile droplets. The acoustic swirls are formed inside the droplets by asymmetric coupling of surface acoustic waves (SAWs). With the merits of the slanted design of the interdigital electrode, the excitation position of SAWs is selective by sweeping in wide frequency ranges, allowing for the droplet position to be customized within the aperture region. We verify the reasonable existence of acoustic swirls in sessile droplets by a combination of simulations and experiments. The different periphery of the droplet meeting with SAWs will produce acoustic streaming phenomena with different intensities. The experiments demonstrate that acoustic swirls formed after SAWs encountering droplet boundaries will be more obvious. The acoustic swirls have strong stirring abilities to rapidly dissolve the yeast cell powder granules. Therefore, acoustic swirls are expected to be an effective means for rapid stirring of biomolecules and chemicals, providing a new approach to micro-stirring in biomedicine and chemistry.

Advanced lipoxidation end products (ALEs) are formed by modifying proteins with lipid oxidation products. The health effects of ALEs formed in vivo have been extensively studied. However, the digestibility, safety, and health risk of ALEs in heat-processed foods remain unclear. This investigation was performed to determine the structure, digestibility, and effect on the mice liver of dietary ALEs. The results showed that malondialdehyde (MDA) was able to alter the structure of myofibrillar proteins (MPs) to form linear, loop, and cross-linked types of Schiff bases and dihydropyridine derivatives under simulated heat processing, leading to the intra- and intermolecular aggregation of MPs and, thus, reducing the digestibility of MPs. In addition, dietary ALE intake resulted in abnormal liver function and lipid accumulation in mice. The core reason for these adverse effects was the destructive effect of ALEs on the intestinal barrier. Because the damage to the intestinal barrier leads to an increase in lipopolysaccharide levels in the liver, it induces liver damage by modulating hepatic lipid metabolism.

Importance: Preclinical and clinical studies have suggested the neuroprotective effect of Panax notoginseng saponins (Xuesaitong soft capsules). However, robust evidence in patients with ischemic stroke is lacking. Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of Xuesaitong soft capsules in patients with ischemic stroke. Design, Setting, and Participants: This multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial was conducted at 67 tertiary health centers in China from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2020. Included patients were aged 18 to 75 years with a diagnosis of ischemic stroke and a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score between 4 and 15. Interventions: Eligible patients were randomly assigned within 14 days after symptom onset to receive either treatment with Xuesaitong soft capsules (120 mg orally twice daily) or placebo (120 mg orally twice daily) for 3 months. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was functional independence at 3 months, defined as a modified Rankin Scale score of 0 to 2. Results: Among 3072 eligible patients with ischemic stroke who were randomized, 2966 (96.5%) were included in the modified intention-to-treat cohort (median [IQR] age, 62 [55-68] years; 1982 male [66.8%]). The number of patients who achieved functional independence at 3 months was 1328 (89.3%) in the Xuesaitong group and 1218 (82.4%) in the control group (odds ratio, 1.95; 95% CI, 1.56-2.44; P < .001). In the safety cohort, serious adverse events occurred in 15 of 1488 patients (1.0%) in the Xuesaitong group and 16 of 1482 (1.1%) in the control group (P = .85). Conclusions and Relevance: In this randomized clinical trial, Xuesaitong soft capsules significantly increased the likelihood of functional independence at 3 months in patients with ischemic stroke, indicating that this may be a safe and effective alternative therapy to improve prognosis in this population. Convincing evidence has suggested the health potentials of oolong tea (OT) on gut microbiota homeostasis; however, limited population-based studies exist regarding the effect of OT consumption on human gut microbial and metabolic profile. This pilot study explored gut microbial and metabolic changes in healthy adults with a 3-week oolong tea intake. Our findings showed that OT treatment significantly altered gut microbial diversity (Shannon index, 5.4±0.1 vs. 5.7±0.1 pre- and post-OT treatment), reorganized gut microbiota composition, enriched Bacteroides and Prevotella, decreased Megamonas, and improved gastrointestinal function. Also, gut microbes from overweight subjects with BMI >23.9 exhibited greater responses to OT treatment compared with normal-weight counterparts. Metabolomic analysis identified OT intake-induced 23 differential metabolites and 10 enriched metabolic pathways. This study may provide new insights into the association among OT intervention, host gut microbiome and metabolic profile, and improve the knowledge of clinical strategies and personalized nutrition.

The cancer-promoting function of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LPP-AS2 has been documented in different cancers. Nonetheless, its role in thyroid carcinoma (THCA) remains unestablished. Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting were conducted to estimate the expressions of lncRNA LPP-AS2, miR-132-3p, and OLFM1. The THCA cells' functions were assessed through CCK8 assays, Transwell invasion assays, scratch wound-healing migration assays, and quantification of caspase-3 activity. The in vivo assays were also implemented to assess tumor growth. Luciferase reporter and RNA immuno-precipitation assay (RIPA) experiments were executed to elucidate the interactions of miR-132-3p with lncRNA LPP-AS2 and OLFM1. THCA tissues and cells exhibited poor lncRNA LPP-AS2 and OLFM1 expressions and a robust expression of miR-132-3p. Overexpressing lncRNA LPP-AS2 constrained THCA cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and improved caspase-3 activity. The anti-tumor function of lncRNA LPP-AS2 was also validated in vivo. miR-132-3p had an interplay with lncRNA LPP-AS2 and OLFM1. Functionally, overexpressing miR-132-3p promoted the malignant THCA cell phenotypes. However, that tumor promotion was abolished by the additional overexpression of lncRNA LPP-AS2. The in vitro experiments also demonstrated that the repressive effect of OLFM1 overexpression on THCA cell malignant action could be offset by the miR-132-3p mimic. lncRNA LPP-AS2 impedes THCA progression via the miR-132-3p/OLFM1 axis. Our findings contribute a potential strategy in interfering with THCA progression.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between changes in blood glucose and blood lipid levels and the risk of thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A total of 159 patients with type 2 diabetes who were treated in our hospital between June 2018 and February 2021 were recruited and assigned into the observation group, including 136 patients with type 2 diabetes without thyroid cancer (nonthyroid cancer group) and 23 patients with type 2 diabetes complicated with thyroid cancer (thyroid cancer group), and 120 healthy subjects during the same period were selected as the control group. Glycated hemoglobin (HbAlc), total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were detected and compared. Pearson's method was conducted to analyze the correlation between serum HbAlc level and TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus; multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the influencing factors of thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results: The serum HbAlc level and the incidence of thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the level of HDL-C was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The correlation analysis showed that serum HbAlc levels in patients with type 2 diabetes were positively correlated with TC and TG levels and negatively correlated with HDL-C levels (P < 0.05) and not correlated with LDL-C levels (P > 0.05). Compared with the type 2 diabetes patients without thyroid cancer, the serum HbAlc, TC, and TG levels of the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the thyroid cancer group were significantly higher, and the levels of HDL-C were significantly lower (P < 0.05). There was no significant change in the level of LDL-C (P > 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum HbAlc, TC, and TC levels were all risk factors for thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (P < 0.05), while serum HDL-C level was a protective factor for thyroid cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Thyroid cancer in type 2 diabetes patients may be linked to elevated levels of blood HbAlc, TC, and TG. HbAlc may raise the risk of thyroid cancer in type 2 diabetes patients by modulating blood lipid levels, which might serve as a marker to assess the risk of thyroid cancer in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. However, since this study did not conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments, how HbAlc affects the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer has not been described in this study, which is also our future research direction. It is expected to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of thyroid cancer.
